who are we?
My name is Tyler Graham, CEO and Founder of above the curve; I attended Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania and graduated back in 2015 (I can’t believe it’s been that long already!). Anyway, I am a graphic designer, wedding photographer (Tyler Graham Studio), traveler, entrepreneur, and dreamer all rolled into one. In other words, I don’t sleep and coffee is my best friend!
A few years ago, I discovered my passion to create my own lifestyle clothing brand. To be able to design and produce apparel and accessories that not only has my own creative flair but also help the causes closest to my heart.
As someone who suffers from anxiety and depression as well asbattling with suicidal thoughts, I wanted to put some good back into the world. Whilst dealing with my mental health I also decided to be honest with not only myself but those around me by uttering just two words...I’m gay! Yes, I came out in November of 2017. While I did lose some family and friends I would not change my decision for anything! My true family and friends love me for who I am. I follow the philosophy that family does not only mean your blood but also those you choose. My family consists of those blood relatives that chose to stick by me and my amazing friends that keep me laughing every day.
Why am I telling you all this? Well, I can’t accurately explain the concept of above the curve; without explaining my background and history. I created above the curve; to reflect the constant struggle between ending your life or to keep pushing forward. Personally, I almost put a period at, what I thought would be, the end of my book. However, I decided to put a semicolon instead and I chose to live. I chose to fight. For this reason the above the curve; brand ends in a semicolon as a constant reminder.
As I previously stated, I’ve battled suicidal thoughts, depression, and anxiety for years and now I have two amazing reasons to continue fighting; my niece and nephew. My niece and nephew are my whole world and nothing will ever come between us.
above the curve; goes beyond the normal brand because our goal is not to highlight just the struggle many people have to fight for their life but to also put a spotlight on other issues facing mankind such as; environmental issues, LGBT and women’s equality, etc. How is above the curve; going to accomplish this you might ask? Well, above the curve; will take 10% from the profits each month and donate it to a specific charity. There is a three month span for this donation meaning that there will be four charities/organizations that will receive a donation every year. We plan to have a constant cycle of new and meaningful charities and non-profits and encourage any suggestions that could help broaden our reach.
